About GameSolus
The project
GameSolus is a personal, independent website dedicated to word and logic games. The idea is simple: to have everything you need in one place to check a word, find the best Scrabble move or get unstuck on a Sudoku grid, with no sign-up, no app to install, and in several languages. The site is free and funded by advertising.
The tools
The site currently offers six tools, designed to be quick to use on both desktop and mobile:
- Sudoku — import or photograph a grid and its digits are recognised automatically; ask for an explained hint, check your grid or generate a new one (easy, medium or hard).
- Nonogram — picross grids designed and checked one by one so that they can be solved by deduction alone, with check, hint and solution.
- Scrabble — every word you can play with the 7 letters on your rack (blank tile included) and up to 3 letters from the board, ranked by score.
- Anagram — check whether a word exists, find its anagrams and every word that can be made from its letters.
- Crossword — find the possible words from their length and the letters already placed in the grid.
- Synonyms — synonyms, broader terms and opposites of a word, to explore from one word to the next.
Helping you improve, not just giving the answer
Each tool can of course give you the solution straight away, but the aim is also to help you get better. In Sudoku, the hint does more than fill in a cell: it shows the next logical move and explains the technique used (naked single, hidden single, pairs and triples). For word games, every word found comes with its definition, and each tool page gathers explanations, playing tips and frequently asked questions.
Where the data comes from
The word games rely on lists of words that are valid in competition play. Definitions and synonyms come from Wiktionary, the free dictionary: through GLAWI (University of Toulouse) for French and wiktextract for the other languages. This content is published under the CC BY-SA licence and remains the property of its authors.
Sudoku grid recognition was developed specifically for GameSolus: the grid is detected and straightened directly in your browser, then a recognition model trained for the site identifies each digit.
Privacy
No account is needed to use GameSolus, and only the data strictly needed for the tools to work is processed. The details, tool by tool, are in the privacy policy.
